NYPD Officer Indicted in DUI Death
/> A jury in Brooklyn has indicted a New York City policeofficer on manslaughter and drunken driving charges in relation to a fatalaccident in September. In a press release Kings County District Attorney Charles J.Hynes said 30 year-old police officer, Andrew Kelly, was charged with vehicularmanslaughter in the second degree, DUI and speeding. Kelly is suspected ofdriving the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee that struck and killed 33 year-oldVionique Valnord of Crown Heights. Klein’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, said of the accident “Itwas a dark, foggy, rainy night in Brooklyn when he was driving. This didn’ttake place because he was drunk. It took place because it was an accident.” According to court papers the officers that responded to theaccident detected alcohol on Kelly’s breath. Kelly was given a blood test atKings County Hospital seven hours after the accident and registered a 0.00. Kelly is due in Kings County Supreme Court later this month.
