Two Injured on New Jersey Turnpike

by Administrator 29. April 2009 08:36

Two people were injured last night when their car crashed into a tour bus on the New Jersey turnpike near the Lancaster-Lebanon interchange. The vehicle was driven by 18 year old Missy Marufa of Egg Harbor. The car struck the rear of the Mayflower tour bus, driven by Sergi Kovalyshkin of Staten Island, which was carrying 27 passengers, according to state police. The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. four miles west of the Lebanon exit in Rapho Township.

After hitting the bus, the car careened across the highway and crashed into a tree. The bus, which was headed from Pittsburgh to New York, struck the dividing barrier before coming to a controlled stop at the Mt. Gretna maintenance shed.

Marufa and a passenger, Patrick Daniel Richard, were taken to the Hershey Medical Center. No one on the bus was injured.

Court Upholds $2.1M Goodyear Verdict

by Administrator 24. April 2009 04:19

The Mississippi Court of Appeals ruled this week that a fatal car crash was the result of a faulty tire, not alcohol. Travis Kirby, 20, was driving his Chevrolet Camaro nearly 90 mph on Highway 27 when the vehicle, according to court records, “left the road, rolled, clipped a tree, continuedto roll, hitting another tree, and then came to rest on its side.”

Kirby was killed instantly. Authorities said his bloodalcohol level was 0.25, more than three times the legal limit. RileyStrickland, 18, and Sidney Odom, 19, were both injured.

The court upheld a $2.1 million verdict against GoodyearTire and Rubber Co. and Big 10 Tire Co. Attorney for Odom, Mike Allred said thetire failure was “the direct cause of the accident…I’m very pleased that theCourt of Appeals followed the law and did the right thing in affirming thejudgement.”
