National Texting While Driving Ban?

by Administrator 31. July 2009 00:27

Driving laws are under the jurisdiction of the states. However, Senator Charles Schumer is proposing that federal lawmakers vote to withhold highway funds to any state that does not ban texting while driving.

Recent studies have shown that drivers are 23 times more likely to be in an accident when they are texting. Because of this, New York and 14 other states currently have bans on the act.

Bikes and Beer in July

by Administrator 24. July 2009 02:12

Mayor Bloomberg has officially proclaimed July to be Good Beer Month. As part of the festivities, residents are encouraged to ride their bikes to bars to enjoy quality beer. While this can be a great source of entertainment, it is important to remain safe as well.

A recent study showed that 21% of cyclists involved in fatal accidents from 1996 to 2005 had alcohol in their systems. Because of this, it is important to remember to stay safe when drinking. According to the spokesperson for Transportation Alternatives, "There is a difference between drinking and intoxication... you should never ride intoxicated."
