Canastota Man Dies of Injuries from October Car Crash

A Canastota man has died of injuries he sustained in anOctober 14th car crash on Oxbow Road in the Town of Lincoln.

41 year-old Anthony V. Jayson of Canastota, New York, hasbeen listed in critical condition since the crash in October. He was being treated in a Syracuse Hospital for serious head trauma. According to the Onondaga County Medical Examiners Office, Jayson died on Friday from his injuries.

Jayson was traveling south on Oxbow Road in a Dodge Neon, attempting to navigate an uphill curve, when his car crossed into the northbound lane and was struck in the driver’s side by a northbound mini-van operated by 54 year-old Marianne Miller of Wampsville, New York.

Woman Charged with DUI in Fatal Hit-And-Run

A Melville woman is facing charges of driving under theinfluence after she drove a car that struck and killed a pedestrian in the NewYork suburb of Shirley.

 Police say that32-year-old Jennifer Johnson was driving a truck on the William Floyd Parkwayearly Sunday morning when 49-year-old Michael Lynch was crossing the parkwayaround 2:25 a.m. Lynch was struck by the truck which then drove away. Lynchdied on the parkway.

Johnson’s mother Grace said that her daughter told her sheonly had one beer four hours before the accident. Grace Johnson said Jenniferwas doing a good deed and was in fact driving a man home who had had too muchto drink.

Johnson consented to a blood test. Results are pending.

Driver Jailed in NYC DUI Crash

A drunken driver who crashed into a New York City Taxi,killing two people, has been sentenced to 3 ½ to 10 ½ years in prison. Theaccident occurred after the driver was ordered deported and charged in a deadlybeating.

Russell Rothberg, defense lawyer for driver Daryush Omar,said Omar apologized during sentencing Wednesday in Queens. The 25-year-oldpleaded guilty last month to vehicular manslaughter.

The November 16 crash killed cab driver Bessy Velasquez andPanayiota Demetriou.

The 2006 Manhattan murder case against Omar has stalled butremains open.

Two Pedestrians Killed by Driver

Two pedestrians were hit and fatally injured by a driver in Bay Shore, New York on the night of Saturday, September 26.  Suffolk County police reported that a man and a woman were killed when they were hit by a 2004 Acura, and are trying to ascertain whether or not the victims were attempting to cross the street.  The driver of the car was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and treated for minor injuries.  Officers have taken possession of the vehicle and are examining it for further information in their investigation.

Underage Drinking/Driving Accident Kills 1, Injured 4

A DUI accident left one dead and four others injured. Police say that around 6 a.m. Saturday morning, 17-year-old Tebor Hoxie of Norwich was driving on Route 206 in Bainbridge, when he lost control of his car, veered off the road and rolled several times. 18-year-old passenger Ashley Crisell suffered major head trauma and was pronounced dead at Wilson Memorial Hospital. 17-year-old Kathryn McLaughlin is currently in critical condition, suffering from a skull fracture, broken pelvis, as well as a foot amputation. 18-year-old Darren Houck is also in critcal condition with multiple injuries to his extremities as well as a punctured lung. 17-year-old Kathryn Card is in stable condition with a broken right shoulder. 

Hoxie was treated for minor cuts and pain, then released to the New York State Police. He has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and is being held in Chenango County Jail. His bail is set at $200,000. Police say that none of the teens were wearing seat belts, and all were thrown from the vehicle.

Notorious Queens Blvd. Claims Another Life

Two people were killed in seperate hit-and-run accidents in New York City. One accident occured on the now infamous Queens Boulevard while the second took place in Hells Kitchen.

At around 9:15 Wednesday night, police arrived on Queens Boulevard at 70th st., to discover a woman in her mid-twenties unconcious and unresponsive. The woman was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police have yet to find the driver.

 Around 10:10 that evening, at the intersection of 9th avenue and W. 40th sreet, a woman in her fifties was struck by a garbage truck. The woman was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. Police located the private sanitation truck at the intersection of 112th street an 2nd avenue. The driver was questioned and released by police. The driver works for Action Carting Enviromental Services. He claimed that he did not see the woman. Police determined that he was unaware of the accident.

1 Dead, 3 Injured in Central Islip Car Accident

A teen driver is dead after a car accident in Central Islip. The fatal accident occured at the intersection of Suffolk Avenue and Church Street around 11:10 p.m. on Friday April 3, 2009. Seventeen year old Kevin Hernandez-Pinto was driving a 1994 Toyota Camry with three passengers on Church Street when he crashed into a taxi driven by thirty three year old Christopher Jackson. Long Island police say another vehicle, a 2007 Mazda driven by Marcia Ledwidge, was also involved.

Southfolk County EMT's transportated Hernandez-Pinto and his three passengers to Southside hospital. Emergency department doctors pronounced Hernandez-Pinto and released the passengers with non life threatening injuries. Jackson and his passenger were also taken to Southside where they were treated for neck and back injuries. Marcia Ledwidge was released.
