The widow of executive Steven Altman, of the Ambler Group,has filed a wrongful death lawsuit over the airplane-helicopter crash thatkilled nine people, including her husband, over the Hudson River in New YorkCity.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Philadelphia, allegesthat the helicopter tour company ran a “bumper-car operation.”
Steven Altman was piloting a single-engine Piper thatcollided with a helicopter over the Hudson River. The accident was captured onvideo and drew international attention. Arthur Wolk, Altman’s attorney, said healso plans to sue the Federal Aviation Administration for the actions of theair-traffic controller directing Altman and the controller’s supervisor.
The lawsuit seeks more than $1.35 million in damages fromLiberty Helicopter Inc., Meridian Consulting Corp., American Eurocopter L.L.C.,and insurance companies. The suit claims that “lax management and operationalattitude” by Liberty Helicopter and Meridian Consulting caused “a horridhistory of accidents” over the Hudson and East Rivers.
