Jerry Fuchs, LCD Soundsystem Drummer, Dies in Elevator Shaft

Thirty-four-year-old Gerhardt “Jerry” Fuchs, a prominentfixture of the New York rock scene, drummer for the band LCD Soundsystem, died Saturdaynight in an elevator in Brooklyn.

The drummer was killed after attempting to crawl out of abroken elevator shaft at a benefit party in Brooklyn. The accident occurred shortlybefore 12:30 a.m. on November 8. Fuchs became stuck on a freight elevatorbetween the fourth and fifth floors. When he attempted to jump out of thestalled car, his jacket got caught and pulled him back toward the elevatorshaft, where he fell to his death. Another unidentified man was in the elevatorand safely leaped to the fourth floor hallway.

At a gathering of Fuch’s friends on Sunday night, LCDSoundsystem frontman James Murphy called him “one of the only people we allknew who was literally great at what he did.”

Another friend of Fuchs, Jon Fine, said “He could playmetal, prog rock with multiple time signatures, aggressive indie disco… Hispassing puts an enormous hold on the Brooklyn music scene. The world of independentmusic has sustained a really significant loss.”

NYC Cop Found Guilty of Murder

A New York City police officer was found guilty ofsecond-degree murder, Wednesday, for fatally shooting his ex-fiancée back in2007. Harry Rupnarine, 39, was found guilty, by a Queens Supreme Court jury, ofkilling Guiatree Hardat, 22, on May 10 2007.

Rupnarine, a New York Police Department, took the stand inhis own defence last month claiming that he had accidentally killed Hardat withhis 9 mm Glock service revolver while trying to shoot two knife-wielding thugs.

Friends and relatives of Hardat said her relationship withRupnarine was rife with episodes of violence and jealousy.

Two Pedestrians Killed by Driver

Two pedestrians were hit and fatally injured by a driver in Bay Shore, New York on the night of Saturday, September 26.  Suffolk County police reported that a man and a woman were killed when they were hit by a 2004 Acura, and are trying to ascertain whether or not the victims were attempting to cross the street.  The driver of the car was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and treated for minor injuries.  Officers have taken possession of the vehicle and are examining it for further information in their investigation.

Construction worker killed in accident

A construction worker was struck by a crane on the back of a truck and was killed in the accident last week, according to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. 

The accident caused the bridge that connects Queens to the Bronx to close for a short time. The bridge has been undergoing construction this summer, but due to delays, the date for the project's completion uncertain.
