Man Killed by Own Car in Freak NYC Accident

A man from Staten Island was pronounced dead early Sundayfollowing a freak accident in which he was ejected from an SUV and then hit bythe SUV as it struck a tree.

The accident occurred on Hylan Boulevard early Sundaymorning. 47-year-old Oleg Kantarovich was trying to back out of a parking spotwhen his sport utility vehicle accelerated and struck a tree. Kantarovich wasejected from the vehicle and struck by the SUV as it collided with the tree.

Police responded to a call about a pedestrian that wasstruck and found the man unconscious with severe trauma to his torso.Kantarovich was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
