5 Killed in Burning Car in NJ Turnpike Pileup
/> Five people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash Saturday onthe New Jersey Turnpike. The pileup took place at 1 p.m. in Mount Laurel when atractor-trailer hit a Buick LeSabre. The impact pushed the Buick across thecenter laine of the highway where it was hit by a Jeep and burst into flames.There were at least five other vehicles involved in the accident. Two married couples were killed, one from Kearny and theother from Passaic. A female relative from Kearny was also killed. Three menfrom New York, who were in the Jeep, were hurt. One is in critical condition,another was described as being seriously injured. The truck driver is expectedto face charges. Witnesses reported seeing a man with a wrench at the scene,who managed to knock out one of the windows of the Buick, in an attempt torescue passengers, but it was too late. The crash caused a two hour backup onthe southbound lanes of the Turnpike.
